I am delighted to say that Radio Maria Ireland has invited me to contribute to 'All the Saints of Ireland' - a new programme at 7pm (Irish time) on the second and third Fridays of the month. It is a wonderful opportunity for me to share the work I do here at the blog and to make more people aware of the rich heritage we have in our native saints. Tonight, January 20, I will be speaking on some of the monastic saints whose feasts fall in the month of January as well as on the Irish martyr, Blessed Francis Taylor. I will also be addressing the vexed question of our national patroness, Saint Brigid of Kildare's, alleged relationship to a pagan goddess of the same name. So I do hope you will join me and host Thomas Murphy on Radio Maria for All the Saints of Ireland tonight at 7pm. Details of how to listen to the show can be found at Radio Maria's website: https://www.radiomaria.ie/how-to-listen/

Am listening now. It is a wonderful program!
It is also likely to be the only guide to the pronunciation of the Irish I'm likely to hear. :-)
Thank you very much. I should warn you though that as a northerner it is Ulster Irish, lol. Glad you are enjoying the show and appreciate you letting me know.
Marcella, I live on Sherkin Island Co Cork. Our patron saint has always been named as St. Mona, there is a tonwland on the island called Cill Mona (anglacised as Kilmoon) but apart from this we have no information about her. There is a very strong tradition of her being the patron saint of Sherkin and we are trying to decided on a Feast Day for her thus this query. Have you ever come across any references to a Mughain or Muadhnat (both Irish of 'Mona' in your studies? I know of all the other references to this elusive woman but cannot find any documentary sources linking her to Sherkin (Inis Arcain).
Thank you.
