Saint Laighne, January 12

Another name to add to our collection of obscure Irish saints is found on the calendars at January 12. In the case of Saint Laighne we have a patronymic, but knowing that he is the son of Garbhán does not assist Canon O'Hanlon in identifying him:

St. Laighne or Laigne, Son of Garbain.

In the Martyrology of Tallagh, at the 12th of January, there is mention of a St Laigne, son of Garbain. Laighne, son of Garbhán, is set down in the Martyrology of Donegal on this day.
